The City of Lynnwood is seeking a SCADA Technician to join their Public Works team!

The SCADA Technician  is responsible for conducting preventative and corrective maintenance on Water, Stormwater, and Sewer SCADA systems including Automated Meter Reading (AMR) systems, Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs), sewer lift stations, as well as applicable communication, instrumentation, and power distribution systems; reviews SCADA and AMR system design drawings; adjusts live operation from Human Machine Interfaces (HMI); assists with the planning and design of system upgrades and expansions.
Essential Functions

Includes but is not limited to such essential functions as listed below:

  • Performs preventative maintenance on SCADA equipment on a regular schedule.
  • Performs housekeeping on a regular basis to maintain efficient operation of systems, which include duties such as vacuuming cabinets and testing connections.
  • Works with other crew members to troubleshoot SCADA problems and alarms at sanitary sewer and Stormwater lift stations and all SCADA locations, and affect repairs.
  • Works with other crew members to install SCADA replacement and upgraded components at lift stations and SCADA locations.
  • Performs systems analysis for new and upgraded SCADA and AMR systems, including documenting systems, procedures and applications.
  • Updates technical and program SCADA and AMR documentation.
  • Determines appropriate inventory of SCADA and AMR spare parts for critical instrumentation; orders parts as necessary or needed.
  • Reviews blueprints, design drawings, work orders and shop drawings to facilitate coordination of SCADA maintenance efforts.
  • Assists with low voltage electrical work as assigned.
  • Assists with lift station mechanical work as assigned.
  • Assists in inspection of SCADA instrumentation installed by contractors.
  • Provides support to consultants working on SCADA systems.
  • Works with operations personnel, engineers and suppliers to explain the functioning of processes and procedures needed for the operation of new equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports including those in the Cartegraph system, including calibration history on instrumentation and test equipment, maintain technical manuals, drawing and schematics for SCADA equipment.
  • Performs as a SCADA Lead. Performs other duties as assigned, including assisting Utilities Operations crews.
  • Maintain regular attendance.


Minimum Qualifications

Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be two years of progressively responsible experience in SCADA and/or AMR system maintenance, instrumentation and electronics, and two years of higher education in Instrumentation and Industrial Automation or related field. A valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
