Position Summary: The Fleet Manager has an assigned fleet of drivers to manage daily and reports to the Operations Manager and Director of Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Ensures continuous accurate and timely flow of information to and from Planners, Drivers and Customer Service and Sales personnel with the ultimate goal of maximum utilization, service levels and driver retention.
  • Communicate all appropriate information to load planners to minimize dwell time and maximize optimal load assignment.
  • Communicate load information details to drivers.
  • Field all incoming calls to your desk/cell phone making every effort to keep missed calls under 15%.
  • Regularly update driver PTA to aid load planners with optimal utilization of both driver and equipment.
  • Verify that driver’s hours of service are current and accurate.
  • Continual review of mobile communications messages for prompt responses.
  • Continual review of driver ETA in an effort to maintain a 98% on time service level.
  • Regular review of the TMS to verify accurate trailer assignments.
  • Pro-actively communicate with Sales/Customer Service personnel when service levels are in jeopardy of failing.
  • Ensure pick-up and delivery appointments are met to support customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and current records of driver requested time off (driver events/RDO).
  • Promote proper use of mobile communications automated workflow to guarantee data integrity.
  • Ensure drivers are in possession of Over-Dimensional permits when required.
  • Monitor and analyze operational systems to maximize efficiency and profitability.
  • Provide support and interpretation to Drivers regarding payroll information, and company policy requirements.
  • Supervise, coach and motivate Drivers as needed.
  • Communicate with Shop/Maintenance personnel regarding scheduling maintenance needs.

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent desired.
  • Minimum 3 or more years of operations and/or planning experience in the trucking industry.
  • 1 – 2-year experience with TMS, preferably McLeod.

  • Demonstrated experience with accumulating data and metrics and using information to affect decisions that maintain customer service levels and increase driver retention/satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently, utilize strong judgement on assigned tasks, and accept direction.
  • Utilize strong judgement in all situations.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrates attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with a range of personnel.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Strong business acumen consistent with SPD mission statement and culture.
  • Ability to handle stress in a high paced environment, stay organized, focused, even-tempered and congenial when faced with multiple deadlines.
  • Maintain a presentable appearance.
